  1. Higher abundance of disturbance-favoured trees and shrubs in European temperate woodlands prior to the late-quaternary extinction of megafauna

Synthesis The abundance of Taxus suggests a limited role of fire whilst the observed levels of Taxus Corylus and herbivores alive today in Europe are only a small remnant of the large species that existed in high diversity The extinction of so many large herbivores during the last 50 000 years and the loss of megaherbivores kg from most of the continent before the Pleistocene Holocene transition is likely to have had cascading the European temperate forest biome we examine the abundance change of three important European woody taxa Higher abundance of disturbance-favoured trees and shrubs in European temperate woodlands prior to the the late-quaternary extinction of megafauna

  2. More than agriculture: Analysing time-cumulative human impact on European land-cover of second half of the Holocene

quantified in a form of a human pressure index HPI . Patterns of spatio-temporal evolution of the HPI agree indicate a rapid increase of the human pressure around 1200 1700 BP and a significant increase of agriculture-related throughout the second half of the Holocene. However initially high HPI values up to 70 at 5700 6200 BP which Assessment of past anthropogenic modifications of land-cover dynamics is key to understanding the human 6000 years by comparing two independent datasets. We use a dynamic vegetation model forced by debiased climate land-cover modifications throughout the second half of the Holocene. Population estimates correlate with values in the Mid-Holocene suggest significant impact of early agricultural and pre-agricultural human practices time-cumulative human impact on European land-cover of second half of the Holocene

  4. The Impact of Virtual Object Interaction on Episodic Memory: The Role of Bodily-Self Consciousness and Presence

Although the effects of BSC and the sense of presence on memory were not observed a link between BSC and environment offers a new approach to exploring this memory. This study examines the impact of interaction the sense of presence on episodic memory in VR. Thirty-two participants were immersed in a virtual environment questionnaires about their BSC and sense of presence. Twenty-four hours later a free recall task was used to assess confidence in the location of the objects suggesting that different types of information should be distinguished Fernandez A., Sacher M., Sakdavong, J.
